Recruitment and Selection

JMI is committed to develop and maintain a sufficient pool of qualified marine officers and professional workers  to meet its customers' requirements.
 
It is for this particular reason that we, in JMI, established a separate Recruitment Section, which sources, screens and conducts a preliminary interview with all the applicants. Once pre-selected, candidates are given to the Recruitment Manager and Crewing Manager for further evaluation and recommended to Principals for final approval.

    ♦          Job advertisements in leading Philippine newspapers – We advertise as soon as we receive the requirements of our principals.
   ♦        General job fairs – We participate in job fairs or hold our own recruitment drives for a more varied search for the right applicants to suit our principals’ business.
   ♦      Networking activities – As an active member of leading maritime and land-based organizations, we are able to share information and resources to meet our principals’ manpower needs.
   Pre- screening – We conduct pre-selection of candidates based on submitted applications which are encoded in the computer.
        Interviews and trade tests – Selected candidates are interviewed by the Recruitment Manager and Crewing Managers. For land-based recruitment, Trade Specialists also interview the applicants. Interviewees are required to take a trade test as well as an English test.
        Background checks – In accordance with our quality assurance standard, we check the veracity of the information supplied by the candidates by calling our networks.
        Principals’ interview – We arrange for interviews of shortlisted applicants at the convenience of our principals. We also utilize videoconferencing facilities in our office premises for these interviews. 

 
Screening and Selection Process
 
To assess our applicants’ knowledge and skills, our Recruitment Section conducts a screening and selection process which includes paper screening, interviews, and examinations.
 
In paper screening, we segregate crew and workers with experience from those without.  Experienced crew  and workers are prioritized and short-listed for preliminary interview. Once they pass the interview, the applicants are subjected to tests corresponding to the position they apply for.
